Allan Webb is the sole provider of In-Service Support (ISS) for Naval Type A and Type B vessels…
We have trained Documentation Engineers who evaluate requests from MoD Project Teams (PTs) for the creation, and amendment of Parts Catalogues.
The contract includes the following services:
– Full engineering breakdown of equipment.
– Data acquisition in support of documentation activities.
– NATO Codification of required spares.
– Creation/amendment of Spare Gear Lists (SGLs).
– Provisioning Schedules (PS).
– Illustrated Parts Catalogues (IPCs), including the creation of line art illustrations.
Under this contract, staff are involved in the research, production, validation and management of technical publications for the Navy specifically, but in addition working for Land and Air projects where required.
This contract covers all In Service vessels which includes the MCMV, Type 23, LPD, SRMH, Vanguard Class Submarines, Trafalgar Class, HMS Ocean (LPH), RFA Wave Class, RFA Bay Class, RFA Fort Victoria, RFA Fort Rosalie, RFA Fort Austin, RFA Argus, RFA Diligence.
Also as part of this contract we have started to review Type B support documentation for various small craft used by the Navy, Royal Marines and also the Army Maritime, these craft include Pacific 24 Rigid Inflatable Boats, Arctic 28 Rigid Inflatable Boats, Army Combat Support Boat, Landing Craft Air Cushion, Offshore Raiding Craft.
As part of the contract extension Allan Webb have been developing a Type B Database that will contain all the Spare Gear Lists (SGL) for all the Type B supported vessels. This database has been demonstrated to various users and has received good feedback. This will allow the users to look at the latest SGLs, as part of the database they will have various ways to search for data e.g. by NSN, by part number, by equipment etc.
The PS/IPC documentation that supports the Type A supported vessels can cover anything from a simple valve to a main propulsion engine and also complete systems within a ship. As part of the contract we are required to carry out simple amendments, such as updating NSNs, to more complex updates, where we are asked to review the complete catalogues and update in accordance with the latest information supplied by the equipment manufacturer.
We also produce new IPCs, and an example of this is the new propulsion engines being fitted to the MCMV class.
All amendments to IPCs are currently processed on the Line Item Database (LIDB) which is a MoD owned system. During the last 12 months we have cleansed the data within this database creating the current, and future, Master data set instead of the previously held hardcopy and fiche.
Allan Webb is the expert in the Naval Documentation Cataloguing Specification known as ‘CatSpec’ and has recently assisted the MoD in updating this specification.
We currently have a task to validate 4500 individual technical publications, in this case, IPCs, to assess accuracy. This process includes a 100% review by our engineering experts who then amended the IPCs as required.
The Naval documentation that Allan Webb produces on a regular basis includes:
– Books of Reference (BR).
– IPCs, including associated PS.
– Job Information Cards (JICs) and Planned Maintenance Schedule (PMS).
– E lists have been excluded from this particular contract but can be produced where required.
